Auckland's Mixed Vege release their debut single, a thick, bubbly and overdriven indie-groove, slacker-pop tune that reflects on ideas of toxic masculinity within the culture of Aotearoa.
Fronted and written by Goodshirt's Rodney Fisher, the fresh, 90's-esque clip directed and filmed by Fisher himeslf, bring to surface the playful surreality of the everyday mundane, a common theme in his music.
Take Take Take signifies a return to the more DIY alt-pop side that Rodney and his band mates were known for in the early naughties with hits Fiji Baby, Sophie and Blowing Dirt. The straight grooves and bumbling fuzzy guitars feel nostalgic, with fresh and warm production served up by his brother, Murray Fisher (Goodshirt, Voom).
"The track is basically about growing up in New Zealand, and struggling with your identity. The pressure to be in the boys club, and sometimes succeeding, but mostly rebelling against what you feel people want you to be. Having a sense of belonging is something that a lot of males in this country struggle with. 'She’ll be right mate' is not always the case" - Rodney Fisher
