The next two weeks on Coast

Coast Thursday July 21st

This week on Coast we have another superb line-up of local performers, kicking off with the refreshing mix of rock, funk and hip hop beats of Stylus! It’s been a while since they’ve been on our show, but they’re back in business and looking good. They have spent the past 18 months touring the country relentlessly, and now they’re recording the second album which is due for release later this year.

On the hip-hop tip this week, we’ve got a double helping of good stuff! DJ Manchoo, current DMC and ITF champion and member of Taaz’s crew No Artificial Flavours, will be on the decks spinning tracks and demonstrating why he is such a champion! Our next guest was the youngest person to ever represent NZ against Australia in the annual trans-tasman MC battle. At only 17 years of age Pakkz has his sights set on the top tier of Aotearoa hip-hop and with his talent and determination this boy is well-worth checking out.

Also on this week’s episode of Coast is pop/rock newcomers The Midnight Youth. Founding members Simon Oscroft and Scott Penberthy met in woodwork class in 2001. In 2004 they met the 2 other band members, Aidan Bartlett and Matt Warman and they eventually became The Midnight Youth. They played their first gig to the girls of Westlake Girls High School, and this Thursday night they’ll be taking to our stage!

Plus we have the debut of the latest Katchafire video, as well as new clips from Black Eyed Peas (hot off the announcement of their upcoming return tour) and Akon (playing with Nelly next week!) and we spend a day in the life of local rock stars AUTOZAMM on the day their debut album hits the stores.

Check it out!

MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK SPECIAL!

We have sourced a fantastic line up of Maori performers and guests that will be coming together to celebrate New Zealand’s unique indigenous language for our Maori Language Week special next Thursday July 28th.

Kicking off the show will be west Auckland-based kapa haka group extraordinaire Te Putahitanga Rangatahi O Te Rautahi.

Then, extra special guests Moana And The Tribe rock the whare with the music that has seen the group propelled into the international spotlight in recent years. Since the 1990s, Moana Maniapoto has stamped her mark in the New Zealand music scene with her former group, Moana and the Moahunters. In 2002, she formed Moana and The Tribe and her achievements in music and the promotion of te reo Maori earned her the MNZM (New Zealand Order of Merit) last year.

Straight out of Ask Your Auntie we have the wonderful Aunty Mabel Wharekawa in the house while Maori Television presenter/karaoke specialist Julian Wilcox is coming along to sparkle up a special night. And, in a fitting finale, Maori language hip-hop/reggae outfit Tohu will be grooving out the night as they take to the stage with DJ Poroufessor on the decks.

COAST – NZ’s only live music show!
