Handle the Jandal entires closing soon

19 July 2005 - 0 Comments

The entry deadline for the countries top DIY Music Video competition is drawing near as the final days count down for musicians and filmmakers to get their music video into the 8th annual Handle the Jandal Competition.

Last year novice and professional filmmakers sent in over 70 entries from around the country. Kiwi musicians such as Twinset, The Phoenix Foundation and Sola Rosa had the pleasure of seeing their music videos on the big screen.

This year’s award ceremony will once again be held at Wellington’s Embassy Theatre on September 21st featuring 15 finalists vying for top honours across six categories. A panel of judges will decide Best Editing, Best use of exploitative tactics to promote band, Best Cinematography, Best Concept, Best Animation and Rising Star.

An audience vote on the night will nail the seventh golden flip flop category; the Favourite Handle the Jandal Video award winner and two runner ups.

Radio Active 89FM launched the awards, celebrating our most innovative, inspired and truly magical independent music videos, seven years ago. The competition simultaneously provides a launching pad for aspiring filmmakers while promoting New Zealand music. Past Handle the Jandal winner Rollo Wendlock went on to produce a music video for electro superstars the Prodigy in Europe.

The competition motivates musicians to fast track the music video making process in time for the July 25th deadline. In return for the all-nighters and editing headaches filmmakers get props from their peers and maybe a brand spanking new camera, (prizes to be confirmed).
