Wellington alt-metal quartet Eight Eyed Orchid are pleased to announce that their debut EP, One By One & Two By Two, will become available to the collective ear of humankind on 8 November.
Soon after forming in early 2017, the band began chipping away at the three-song EP, with lead single Petrichor released in August to critical praise, along with support from student radio throughout New Zealand. A protest song fortified with primal drums and chugging riffs, Petrichor was described by Everything Is Noise as "some of the most effortless progressive alt-metal heard in quite some time", while muzic.net.nz awarded the song five starts in their review, stating "Petrichor is six minutes of alt-metal madness... not a paint-by-numbers metal band or song by any means".
The other two EP tracks, The Senescent and The Great Edge, reinforce EEO's unique brand of dense, dynamic song journeys. Though the band members come from a range of musical backgrounds - extreme metal, neo-soul, jazz, contemporary classical - they share a love of progressive rock. Hence, epic riffs are pulled through winding song structures with restless rhythmic shifts, guided by versatile vocals that range from soaring melodicism to cathartic screams to dexterous throat singing.
