After the lauded release of her debut EP, Gift Box, Sandy Mill is proud to announce the remixes of her single Charade, by Dick Johnson (Weird Together, MEDZ, Clicks) and Love Amongst Ruin (Steve Hewitt of Placebo).
Sandy has history with Dick Johnson featuring on ‘Magik’ Johnson’s Cardboard Journey album, co-writing Feel Alright and Follow the Groove, both released as singles on 12” vinyl.
From Manchester’s Hacienda Club to Aotearoa, Dick Johnson has produced tracks for Cream’s Olympic label, New Order’s Pleasure Recordings and Manchester’s Paper Recordings collective, after which he went on to set up his own record label, Shaboom Records. His tune Senegal was recently played by Fat Boy Slim, who he will be supporting early next year.
Apart from being a prolific producer and DJ, he finds time to remix Louis Baker, Lorde, Crookers, Claude Von Stroke, DJ Sneak, Ian Pooley, Worthy, Crazy P, Bassnectar and now Sandy Mill.
“This is very much a summertime mix, Dick has managed to lift ‘Charade’ to another place, with lush instrumentation & percussion. A gorgeous groove made for the dance floor, backyard bbq and those long summer road trips” - Sandy Mill
The second remix is a moodier, more goth-driven track than the first, conjured up by Love Amongst Ruin, a band founded by Steve Hewitt after his global success with Placebo.
Speaking of the remix Sandy says, “My mate Steve loved Charade so much he offered to remix it! I was super chuffed. He has given the song a totally different lean, pitched the vocal down added drum machine and Synths. I love how its transformed into a dark, goth feel”.
Sandy Mill is an internationally recognized vocalist, collaborator and songwriter, born in Gisborne of Ngati Porou descent. She has worked with The Bellbirds, Basement Jaxx, Neil Finn, Pitch Black, Placebo, Flood, Boy George, and still performs with SJD as well as fronting multinational act New Telepathics.
You can catch Sandy live with her full band featuring Dianne Swann (The Bads), Ben King (Goldenhorse), Jol Mulholland (Mulholland), Milan Borich (Pluto), and Jeremy Toy (Aaradhna), at Corban Estate on December 1st, and Waiheke Summer Fest on January 26th.
