The line-up for Lake Wanaka’s sixth Rippon Festival has been announced. The event, scheduled for Saturday 4th February next year at Rippon Vineyard, will feature Shihad, Shapeshifter, Kora, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Tribalincs, Pluto, P-Bass Expressway, Fly My Pretties, The Mint Chicks, The Phoenix Foundation and Hollie Smith.
Director Lynne Christie says the organisers “couldn’t be happier” with the superb selection of musicians booked for the 2006 festival. Ms Christie points out that as Waitangi Day falls on Monday February 6th in 2006, the long weekend will undoubtedly be one to look forward to in the summer season.
Capacity for the 2006 event will remain at 5000 people. Last year, Rippon 04 sold out two weeks in advance and organisers are expecting tickets to move even faster for the 2006 event. Tickets go on sale in October.
Rippon Open Air Festival has now cemented its place as New Zealand’s foremost event of its kind, and organisers are proud to remain faithful to the original aim in 1997 of promoting original music of Aotearoa.
The after party which runs from 11pm till after dawn is also attracting top dance acts from around the country. For the 06 event, after party director Sonata McLeod aims to include producers with “a live visual and audio element” within their music. Last year’s event reached capacity at 2500 patrons.
The 12 members of Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated who organise the biennial Rippon festivals have been underway in their preparations for several months. Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated is a non-profit organisation, with past profits benefitting such groups as Infinity Skate Park, Mt Aspiring College, Pembroke Park, and Wastebusters.
