Never content to stay idle for long, Skinny Hobos, the hardest working two-piece in NZ Rock and Roll release their brand new 6 track collection The Lucifer EP today. This EP release completes the bands’ latest three-pronged musical attack, alongside their freshly-commenced national tour and debut of lead single Lucifer on 1 March.
Following on from an eventful 2018 and the release of their self-titled, full-length debut album, multiple national tours and a ‘Best Rock Artist’ nomination in last year’s Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, The Lucifer EP now offers up a collection of brand-new tracks, with Lucifer and Bastid written only in the last few months. This stampeding line-up of bottom-heavy, riff-laden gems reveal new layers of Alex Elvis and Texas Holdom’s sound and shows where this two-piece have been, and gives an explosive hint at where they’re heading.
Texas Holdom, drummer and vocalist says of the new EP; “The new material has incorporated a huge blend of influences, and we have delivered what we feel is a stomping rock atmosphere with this EP. It rocks, it grooves, it encourages you to bop your head and live you can’t help but go a little crazy – or at least we can’t when playing them.”
Demonstrating the scope of what really can be achieved with only two men, a guitar and a drum kit, the EP also includes a scorching 2-piece rendition of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, one of the most legendary rock songs of all time. While some may interpret this bold achievement as a single-minded commitment to their duo status, a hint of further experimentation lies ahead. Holdom explains; “We want to extend ourselves as a two piece as far as possible, as the dynamic in the band has great balance. The last thing any creative entity wants to do is upset that balance. We still get asked constantly if we are going to add another member to the band and while we have not counted the idea out, we have been experimenting with new ideas and members, some of which you will see on the tour – so get out and see the shows!”
Now two gigs deep into their 14-date nationwide tour, Skinny Hobos will give fans a chance to experience these rarely heard, brand new tracks alongside solid fan favourites on the Lucifer tour, with support from Dead Favours and Coridian.
