Setting into 2019 nicely, we unveil the 13th instalment from Skalator Music, welcoming New Zealand producer J Plates into our growing catalogue. His tracks have become recognised for their sonic qualities, rich in atmospheric character and influenced by a more nostalgic and musical sound within the Drum and Bass and Electronic Music spectrums, with releases on Sonata Records, Offworld Recordings, Deafmuted Records, Liquid Brilliants, Audio Theory Records and Omni Music.
For this release, he embraces the reminiscent sound from the late 90's Drum and Bass vibe unleashing two tracks that immediately take us back to our teenage dancefloor days. The Kiwi DJ/producer, now based in the UK, brings his music production skills to our table, showcasing a 'future classic' sound.
The Relic
The single's lead track The Relic, is a two-step funky behemoth that takes us back to the 'Wormhole' days. Balancing between dreamy stabs and infectious pads, evolving into a grinning bassline drop, causing casualties on global dance floors.
Liquid Metal
J Plates leads us into an epic amen track, reminiscent of the 'Renegade Hardware' vibe from the late 90's. Liquid Metal kicks off with a melancholic melody and furious amen breaks, dropping into reese-style Drum and Bass territory, elevating the already serious breakbeat voyage.
