Coke New Releases - Fresh Music from the fridge

Saturday January 14th 11am - 12pm

My God it’s good to be back. With summer here and the baking heat smothering us like an over-affectionate girlfriend, we at Coke New Releases have been building up to this moment for weeks (Phil even changed the dates on his advent calendar so he could eat his Christmas chocolate just as the show goes to air).

There’s no rest for the wicked though, the beach proved to be the best place to work from as Phil found out on New Years Eve. Acting strangely, he spent much of the night contemplating the meaning of the cosmos before wandering out to sea fully clothed to speak with Neptune, returning with the latest videos from Beyonce, Breaks Co-Op and Notorious BIG. At 6am we found him washed ashore, babbling incessantly and clutching onto the Datsuns.

Walking the beach the following day we came across a pile of washed up new releases, the latest from The Veronicas, Devendra Banhart, The Go! Team and the Mt Raskil Preservation Society. The Sony MHC-RG270 was there too, trying to get a tan and waiting for a lucky winner to take her home. She even got her cassette decks out you know…

Top of the Pops

Saturday January 14th 5pm – 6pm TV2
TV Guide Best on the Box “Best Music Show”

Who’s having trouble getting back into work? I know that all of us would have loved an extra couple of weeks off, but Top of the Pops doesn’t make itself, so there we were last week back in studio, never mind the sweltering sun!

This week we thought we’d get right into the sound of a kiwi summer and get dDub live in the studio. This six-piece is a very funky mix of ska, dancehall, reggae, and dub –they should definitely get you dancing off all of that extra Christmas pud!!!

Make yourselves very comfy though because we are also giving you another look at the live 9-minute performance of Green Day’s “Jesus Of Suburbia” in all of its shining glory!!!

As if it wasn’t already hot enough, we’ve also got a never-seen-before performance of Elemeno P’s “Burn”. Plus, loads of other chart-toppers and brand new performances! But before you head off to the beach to cool your toes, jump on the TVNZ website and check out our sizzling competitions…

We have 3 double passes to the last gig of The Exponents’ nationwide tour at the Auckland Harbour Festival – they’ve got Goldenhorse and fireworks happening too, so it should be amazing!

Coke Countdown

Sunday January 15th 10am - 12pm

Its reassuring to know that while the rest of us take a break, the charts keep working, forever keeping their finger on the pop music pulse. The duel between the Black Eyed Peas and the Pussycat Dolls continues at the top of the table this week, while Fat Freddy’s Drop put themselves in a prime position to make a move on the top five.

Aging rockers INXS continue to ride a wave of new-lead-singer-cool holding down a firm spot in the top 10, while the White Stripes ‘My Doorbell’ bursts into the singles chart becoming the biggest-selling Stripes song in the country… ever!

On top of that we’ve your chance to win the brand new album from The Strokes, the latest from Kiwi punk flag-bearers Kitsch, the newie from Chong Nee and a good ole Kiwi classic from Che Fu.

See you there.
