Over 800 bands and solo-duos acts have played off in 22 towns and cities around New Zealand with the best of the best set to take the stage in Auckland on Saturday September 14 in this year’s national final of Smokefreerockquest.
It’s the 31st year for the veteran talent-finder of New Zealand music, with success stories ranging from Marlon Williams to Kimbra and Aldous Harding to Joel Little.
Chris Mac, the bass player of Six60, has been heavily involved in the programme for the past four years. He says with the talent in this year's national finalists it is anyone's game:“Every year I am blown away the talent of the national finalists, and this year is no different. Each act has their own unique sound and feel. I am excited to see them all perform.”
The top seven Smokefreerockquest bands to play off are:
PARK RD - Auckland Central
stacked - North Shore
Seperateky - Manukau
Sit Down In Front - Gisbourne
Arlo Mac - Napier
The Sneaky Caribbean Monk Seals - Chirstchurch
