Veronika Bell (Vikae) has spent the last year working with Abigail Knudson (Missy) quietly chipping away at writing some bass-heavy-bops. With an EP set for release at the end of March, Vikae's new single Liar is a sequel in the story to Veronika's recent single Rumours and previously Truth.
Liar, produced by Mazbou Q (Formally Unchained XL) takes influences from Taylor Swift, Sabrina Claudio and Ella Fitzgerald featuring lush R&B tones mixed with raw and honest lyrics. Veronika is proud to say she has Bipolar. Having Bipolar (or any mental illness) certainly comes with its challenges. Liar is a confronting story exploring self awareness of toxic behavioural traits such as lying; the poison of all things good leaving damage beyond repair.
Originally a budding opera singer and a classically trained pianist Vikae jumped ship to pop from classical as she grew tired of being put in a box and told how music should sound like. Now she describes herself as ‘feeling free’ and where she ‘feels most at home’.
Liar is ironically honest and truthful. This sensual Pop x R&B ballad has a punchy and alluring grooveline that captivates the listener; traversing them through a battle between light and dark; inadequacy and resentment; self pity and triumph.
Already making some serious waves with her two previous singles, Vikae has entered the music scene incredibly strong. Vikae’s sound is organic featuring samples of traditional Ukrainian instruments and medicine bottles and her lyrics are quirky, honest and don’t hold back. Vikae’s song writing will always ‘tell it like it is’.
