Mai FM record label Mai Music and SAE Institute have announced the creation of a ground-breaking new music industry scholarship.
The He Taonga Waiata Scholarship provides a fully paid scholarship to the nine-month SAE Diploma in Audio Engineering for an up and coming recording producer/engineer.
"He Taonga Waiata is the first example of a New Zealand record label offering a production scholarship," says Mai Music boss Victor Stent. "Investing in local music talent usually means investment in new and established artists. We are doing that already, but this scholarship goes one step further and ensures we are also developing world-class producers and engineers. If our local artists are not well-produced or recorded they will not get radio play or be competitive in the global marketplace. It's that simple."
SAE Institute Manager Matthias Postel praised the initiative. "Both Mai Music and SAE have a strong commitment to actively investing in nurturing local production talents and we are proud to be able to offer a place at SAE for the winner".
The He Taonga Waiata Scholarship winner will be announced in early October. More details at www.maiwaiata.co.nz
