Music News - The D4: NME Review

14 April 2002 - 0 Comments

The recent NZ rock'n'roll assault on the UK by the D4 and the Datsuns seems to be reaping some rewards. There have been some well received live shows around London, the Datsuns have scored a Peel session, and now the D4's first release, the 7" Rock and Roll Motherfucker, has been praised by trendsetting UK weekly music mag NME. "They make the sort of joyous, mucky noise that The Hives, try as they might, consistently fail to render," states the reviewer. "This should be single of the week not just because the title contains all the words you ever really need, but because The D4 have a drummer called Beaver." Nice one. On the flipside, the reviewer also states that "New Zealand does not have a rich rock 'n roll heritage." Letters to the NME editor pointing out the stupidity of this statement are encouraged.
