Losing Face formed from ex-Suburban Vermin and Muffaloose. As a three-piece (Mark on drums, Sam on bass and Todd on guitar), they recorded a demo entitled, Slag Farmey - What Is The Funny? in August 2001 for the princely sum of $17. Since then, they have followed up with their debut full-length self-recorded, self-released effort fittingly entitled, Lo-Fidelity, High-Quality in February 2002.
Around June 2002, Mark joined Losing Face prior to the recording of 15-odd new songs. This recording was to be released with Dirk Drent on Stakeout Records, although after lengthy delays, this was never released.
In 2003 Losing Face recorded a demo of Spoken Like A True Asshole at MAINZ with Sam Harvey. The demo was added to Channel Z's unsigned playlist and was played until Channel Z dissolved in February 2005. Losing Face also toured with Kitsch in 2003.
In May 2004 they began recording 9 new tunes at Blue Audio in Auckland with Andy Bird. This was turned into their self titled EP, which was released in 2005.
In August 2005 Losing Face received a grant from NZ on Air to re-record Spoken for radio play.
