New Zealand songwriter and producer Fazerdaze (AKA Amelia Murray) has today shared her new single Bigger; a high impact and gritty alternative rock offering, courageously exploring the inner world of the
female psyche. With its expansive production and intimate lyricism, Bigger vividly captures her journey into womanhood and how the pressures of being a touring musician and the pull of stardom have impacted her relationships back home.
Candidly addressing the song’s meaning, Amelia explains, “I have often felt that ambition and being in the public eye can be a point of tension in my romantic relationships. I think this song is me trying to explore and overcome that with someone I cared about. For the production, I was exploring writing an anti-chorus. The synths do all the work and the vocal melody drops into a talk. I wanted to experiment with strange bendy synths and lean into a cinematic night time world.”
Bigger is
the first taster of new music since the release of Fazerdaze’s recent EP Break!, a powerful and cathartic collection of songs that marked her first new music in over five years. The EP was completed during a three-month long lockdown in NZ
while Amelia was living in solitude for the first time, and directly in the aftermath of a nine year long relationship.
Fazerdaze’s debut album Morningside was critically acclaimed, with rave reviews from publications such as Pitchforkand
MOJO, and tours to the other side of the world from her previous home base of Auckland. With her recent release, she received plaudits from titles such as The Guardian, The Fader, NME, DIYand
The Line of Best Fit, as well as multiple spins across BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Apple Music 1 Radio.
The release precedes Fazerdaze’s forthcoming run of AU, UK and EU tour dates, which sees the artist perform shows across cities including Sydney, Melbourne, London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam, with appearances at Pitchfork Music Festival in November. In Australia she is playing with 88 Rising artist NIKI and DMA’S. This will be the first tour since her SOLD OUT solo tour last month in her home country, Aotearoa, New Zealand, and her 2023 support run with Lorde.
