Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 11:06 am I love Guitar solos, I love Guitar played to excess, people have gone soft with their "3 chord crap"now days. Imagine a song like Hotel California without it's classic solo or Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, or Zep's Stairway to Heaven, we need more solos!! I do feel though that you dont solo for the hell of it, it should compliment the song, a solo can take you on a musical journey and it can be the ultimate expression for a guitarist. How do other Guitarists out there feel about this? Anyhow, if you dig stuff like Joe Satriani, Steve Vai etc.. i invite you to listen to my brand new Guitar soaked instrumental, just select the "Music Teachers" page @ www.koretzmusic.com and hear "Walk With Me" for free, please let me know what you think, i'd really appreciate it. Cheers all. |

i solo Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 12:47 pm with the exception of Page And Clapton the best guitar work availible is from my band 80 Proof. www.80proof.co.nz no i'm not an ego trip, i'm in humor. but yeah, solo's and lead breaks need to be returned to rock. and i've been saying that for years, it's all Nirvanas fault |

RE: Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 3:55 pm Gatman, that was simply superb. Just from a punter's point of view, not a musician's, "Walk with Me" is beautifully layered. I liked it a great deal. |

RE: Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 6:28 pm Good on ya Keat, general discussion is as good a place as any to shamelessly self promote. Oh, and for the record. Biggest ego, fastest digits.... ME. If ya wanna prove me wrong it'll cost ya your pink slips and a dose of public embarrassment.... or to put it another way you wanna dispute it, lets duel! |

RE: Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 7:49 pm Playing fast isn't a priority to me, that's why i dig dudes like Satch and Vai over other technical players, it's because they have great feel and know when to play less, which is just as important as blowing your load all over everything. |

RE: Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 7:55 pm Oh and Jackie, i forgot to say thanks for taking the time to listen to the song and i'm glad you liked it. It's cool that someone listening from a punter's point of view can dig a guitar instrumental, i think melody helps, and far more important than speed. |

RE: Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 11:51 pm i thought the tread started with the fact that guitar solos should enhance the song it's in not just be a quik wa#k of what ya can do, mostly because you've never been out with a girl and spent all your days and lonely nights in your bedroom at mums playing the same scale over and over again till it's fast enough to think you good. and before you little brats think you can out play me, think again, i've been doing this sh*t for twenty years now and started off learning from the likes of gary moore and slayer. right through to the greats as page clapton stevie ray vaughan etc etc. where the guitar is a moving living piece of your own boby. pink slips? you watch to much american television, i think you'd go down in the first note.. but, i'm in what guitar you want of mine? strat? les paul flame maple? les paul sun burst? Washburn N2? danelectro? nah no one wants that washburn elec/acoutic? my bass? my tele? shit i'll even give you a go at my violin if your that tuff.. i'll listen to your guitar solos gat man, when i can, as i've blown my speakers up on my lap top, sh*t happens. but back to the solos. it should be about eing able to express the music from within, not about how fast ya go.. ask any girl thats into sex, she'll tell you the same thing, |

Ain't got no problems with that myself- its bloody good to see someone still pride themselves on being able to play well. Quote:before you little brats think you can out play me, think againI thought the smiley face on the last post kinda would be taken I wasn't really being all that serious but.... why not. If you're dumb enough to come up here I'll send ya home with your tail between your legs. Gatman I'm not having a go at ya. keep up the good work- both the teaching and playing dude. Its good to see someone out there with a respect for the instrument. |

RE: Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 3:21 pm Thanks for that Simon Ishtar, i have kept an eye on you in the past from your posts that have indicated to me that you can probably play pretty bloody well. I visited the Ishtar page before but the songs didn't download for some reason, although at an earlier time i did manage to hear one thing with some tapping that sounded cool. Do you still play a wolfgang? my bro has the EVH musicman, a bloody great guitar! |

CR*P RECORDINGS Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 3:59 pm yes the recordings are crap sounding but thats because they were recorded in a garage using a old, very old, tape deck and a mic hanging from the ceiling. why does every F*cker in auckland think their the SH*T? |

RE: Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 4:12 pm thanks gatman. ditto re: your posts. I do agree with ya on the vai/ satriani point, those cats can really cut loose but in knowing when to lay it back and just let the guitar sing is probably the reason they are still alive and kicking while so many shredders have been put out to pasture. Will have to check up on the mp3s, the ones on here? Still got the wolfgang and planning on getting another when I can afford it, maybe two more. Musicman? definitely a kick arse axe!. I'd prefer a musicman over the wolfgang in some respects, I reckon they've got a bit more depth to them and they just feel a bit classier, finding them these days is a little difficult though. What you playing? |

I know a lot of axeslingers down here who should be a little more big headed but are far from it. Personally I'm only knocking ya cause you took offence earlier. I don't consider being in Auckland a reason to say I can outgun you. That you get so upset over it is reason enough. |

RE: Bring Back Guitar Solos!! Posted: Mon Jun 13, 2005 5:55 pm Yeah iv'e got a few mates who own Wolgangs, and don't get me wrong, they're a great guitar but not as nice as the Musicman in my opinion, iv'e never seen another one around though, we'd buy it if there was one for sale.I play an old natural finish 1978 strat that i've worn to bit's, great for playing Blackmore, Hendrix, Stevie Ray etc.. but my main live axe is a Modified Malmsteen signature strat with an Ibanez trem and a PAF pro pickup in the bridge, has a scolloped fret board too of course.
