RE: Big Day Out 2010 Posted: Wed Nov 11, 2009 2:32 pm the thing that really sucks is that they are able to put this bs second lineups up and it doesnt matter because the event has sold out across the whole of oz. very disappointing indeed |

RE: Big Day Out 2010 Posted: Wed Nov 11, 2009 3:41 pm Oh well if they're selling out they've accomplished their mission, they know what sells. I'm over festivals anyway... diluted sampler packs of live bands. |

RE: Big Day Out 2010 Posted: Thu Nov 12, 2009 6:25 pm Beenie Man: statement from the Big Day Out The Big Day Out Festival booked Jamaican Dancehall artist Beenie Man for the 2010 tour in the knowledge that the artist has a controversial past. In response to the concerns that Beenie Man may perform homophobic material from his youth, the Big Day Out promoters say that as far as they could ascertain, that since signing the Reggae Compassionate Act in 2007, Beenie Man has stayed true to his word in not performing the offending songs. The Big Day Out has today contacted Beenie Man to seek confirmation that Beenie Man stands by the Reggae Compassionate Act. “The Big Day Out’s core values include those of tolerance and understanding,” says Auckland Big Day Out promoter Campbell Smith. “We are responding to concerns that Beenie Man’s presence at the event may compromise those values and are directly investigating fears that he will perform material conflicting with our philosophy and his own undertakings pursuant to the RCA. “It may take us up to a week to resolve this matter.” |

RE: Big Day Out 2010 Posted: Mon Nov 16, 2009 10:36 am so that hippie dude got pulled from bdo. i personally am all for it, anyone who discriminates against a certain race, sex, age etc is not cool in my books. i do like freedom of speech though so this is quite a conflict for me haha |

RE: Big Day Out 2010 Posted: Mon Nov 30, 2009 3:59 pm kia ora well looks like BDO 2010 is gonna be another pakeha's music only concert, and a pakeha language only concert at that. As per usual since the BDO came here it is and still is devoid of any iwi bands even though there are thousands of world class indigenous acts indigenous to this country available. That iwi fighter Hone Harawira would want to know about this blatant disregard of the principles of the treaty of waitangi and about this insipid whiteys only new world order concert that has been given momentum by all you euro-centrists with the blatant disregard for our indigeneity check out "Nga Tama Kino" |

RE: Big Day Out 2010 Posted: Mon Nov 30, 2009 4:18 pm Whoa what??!?! What has the treaty got to do with Big Day Out? Why does the Big Day Out *have* to support indigenous acts? |

RE: Big Day Out 2010 Posted: Tue Dec 1, 2009 1:44 am holy sh*t now that's a touchy subject! i would go ahead and say that bdo is originally an australian created event. with australian organizers and promoters. also it's a corporate event aimed at the 'popular' mainstream. they want to sell the most tickets possible and sad as it is i don't see indigenous acts being crowd drawers. i am an 'average' nzer and i can honestly i don't know squat about acts of that kind. |

Hang on, aren't there already festivals dedicated to indigenous music??? Get off your high horse mate, we/our ancestors both European and Polynesian were all immigrants at some point. Insipid whiteys? With comments like that we're never gonna get rid of racism. With a name like Geoffrey I assume you've got a bit of insipid whitey in ya too eh? Why the disdain for white people? It's not my fault my great, great, great, great grandparents moved here. Do you reject all the non-Polynesian inventions that enrich your life on a daily basis? Christ, we all bleed the same. Get over it man. And quit it with the "all you Euro-centrists" crap. Making generalizations about my heritage is just as offensive as me making generalizations about yours.
