RE: Best Guitarist Ever..? Posted: Thu Sep 30, 2004 8:47 pm There can never be best, there can only be an upper echelon for the rest of us to aim for. My picks for the top guitarists of all time. As stated no best so roughly chronological. Charlie Christian Django Reinhardt Andreas Segovia Chet Atkins Tommy Tedesco (late studio guitarist- part of famous LA wrecking crew who did the real music on most music to come out of LA in 50s to 70s- Most recorded guitarist in history) Paul Burlison (rock and roll trio) Chuck Berry B B King Scotty Moore (early Elvis) Dick Dale Randy California (Spirit) Bert Jansch Curtis Mayfield Jimmy Nolan (James Brown) Jeff Beck Eric Clapton Jimmy Page Jimi Hendrix Albert Lee Al Dimeola John Mclaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra) Richie Blackmore (deep Purple/ Rainbow) Michael Schenker Brian May (Queen) John Williams Larry Carlton (steely Dan- studio guitarist) Gary Moore Eddie Van Halen (My personal hero) Steve Lukather (toto- studio guitarist) Randy Rhoads (early Ozzy) Yngwie J Malmsteen Steve Vai Stevie Ray Vaughan Joe Satriani Shawn Lane Reeves Gabrels (Bowie) Nuno Bettencourt Dimebag Darrell John Petrucci Any comments? omissions? (the "where am I?" comment not applicable as I can shred you under the table and haven't put myself on the list.) |

RE: Best Guitarist Ever..? Posted: Fri Oct 1, 2004 9:00 pm My favourite guitarests: Jimmy Page Slash Angus Young Jimi Hendrix Brian May Randy Rhoads I think the thing that was so great about Jimi Hendrix was that he was a guitarist that started introducing a "new" guitaring style and experimenting with different methods. He, more than anyone else was probably responsible for popularizing the wah-wah pedal, and was one of the guitar greats that started using the famous marshall stacks. In my opinion he was awesome. |

RE: Best Guitarist Ever..? Posted: Fri Dec 3, 2004 11:43 am I seriously can't believe you lot missed out David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. There is a magic to his playing that just seems to make you fall into his world when he plays. Also, I'm not sure of his name, but there was this old guy in the Pink Floyd Pulse album who absolutely rocked on the Learning To Fly guitar solo. The early Pink Floyd stuff was pure psychedelic as well. |

RE: Best Guitarist Ever..? Posted: Fri Dec 3, 2004 12:51 pm LowededWookie i agree, Dave Gilmour wrote and recorded some of thee most memorable solos ever eg. Another brick in the Wall, Comfotably numb, Time, Shine on you crazy Diamond, Dogs, to name a few. What people don't realise is that anyone who practices long enough can shred through scales and arpeggio's. It takes someons special who can create such memorable notes that move you, how many solos can you hum or sing to. Other great solos, Jimmy Page-Studio Stairway to Heaven, Eagles-Hotel California, Ritchie Blackmore-Studio Smoke on the Water, Child in Time. By the way the other guy on Pulse is Tim Renwick.
