Roots music and Festival good times return to the Kaikoura coastline after a 2 year hiatus.
With 6 years of the Kaikoura Roots Festival under their belts this half of the Roots promotional team are ready to bring you a new spin on what was a great festival. It will be a massive weekend and in true Kiwi summer style the lineup for each day will be epic.
The Black Seeds headline the Saturday evening with their reggae funk fusion alongside the irrepressible Tiki Taane with his signature acoustic tunes and later in the early hours pushing the dance floor with DJ Optimus Gryme.
Also on the Saturday Aaron Tokona brings his stonking AHoriBuzz ensemble along to rock the dance floor with North Island reggae groovers Cornerstone Roots and Knights of the Dub Table bringing the true Roots vibe stylee.
Sunday brings the sweet looping sounds of Mihirangi and Wellies blues maestros The Thomas Oliver Band. The festival circuit is still talking about The Nudge from 2012 with their good times high energy show and nothing less is expected here.
Showcasing their reggae strengths over the 2 days will also be Christchurch all star risers One Drop Nation, Merchants of Flow, Soulsystem and One Waka. Left or Right represent the deep south and won’t disappoint with wild psychedelic rock reggae fusion. The Sunshine Sound System bring their lively MCs and phat grooves and Reality Chant with Silva MC will keep it real with their irie tunes and quality vocals. The wee hours will be dance floor friendly but quite possibly a little sweaty with Drum N Bass and more from Soultrader with JabZ MC and DJ Phil keeping things busy.
Throw in boutique bars, gourmet local food, an easy going crowd, sunshine, green fields, the beach and the beautiful Kaikoura Ranges backdrop, it’s set to be our best summer festival yet!
