Fiona McEwen is a singer/songwriter who draws on folk, pop, rock and country influences to create unique songs with catchy melodies.
Fiona McEwen has been writing songs since 1987 but it was not until 2004, when she started out as a regular on the open mic scene, that she began performing publicly, going on to play extensively around Auckland from 2004 to 2012, either solo, in a duo with Steve Terry on lead guitar, or with bands "The FM Band" and "Deep River" (a collaboration with songwriter, Wendy Morris) at venues ranging from cafés, restaurants and bars, to markets, exhibition openings, poetry events, singer/songwriter showcases, folk clubs and festivals.
Also known as an event organiser and promoter, Fiona McEwen has run events, ranging from poetry and original music showcases to open mic nights, for many years. She was the co-ordinator of a stage at the Prana New Year Festival in the Coromandel, NZ for two consecutive years, a member of the management committee for the Titirangi Festival of Music one year, and performed and volunteered at both Festivals several times.
Since April 2021 Fiona McEwen has been running a successful open mic night at Elevation Brasserie in West Auckland and performing with songwriter, Paula Feather on backing vocals, flute and violin..
Fiona McEwen sings backing vocals on Wendy Morris's debut album "Entangled" (2012) and Judith McNeil's debut album "Accepting Apples" (2009).
