Pop duo Foley release Summer bop 'So Personal'

Foley have today released an exciting new single, So Personal.

The guitar-driven track is an unapologetic summer bop. As Foley fans will know, groove is a non-negotiable, and So Personal is no exception. So Personal brings together Foley’s unique blend of pop, funk, and disco and makes for the ideal track to soak in the sun to.

So Personal describes the inception story of a new relationship, where the connection is so immediate and magnetic you may as well be the only ones in the room. Foley suspends us in a moment of new beginnings, when it all comes on at once, fast and hard.

“We’ve all gone to a party in search of someone, but it’s pretty rare to have that genuine moment where you hit it off so completely that you’re instantly in love.” Says Foley AKA Ash Wallace and Gabriel Everett.

“As much as So Personal is about attraction, it’s also that kinda uncomfortable feeling of should-I-make-a-move-or-not, tripping over your words and generally just being a little starstruck.

“It’s the crowd disappearing, leaving only you and the prospect of new love behind (‘we could tell everyone to go home cause you got all my attention’). In only one night two people can go from strangers to each other’s most trusted confidant - so personal so fast (‘only a moment, already know ya’).”

With So Personal, Foley sneaks us behind the curtain, inside both the instant attraction and uncertain desire ("I might move in closer"), into the most personal of moments.

Accompanying the single is a video filmed at Karioitahi Beach, south of Auckland. “We’ve been quite hands-on conceptually in a lot of our previous videos, so decided to take a step back for this one and let our team envision what the song would translate to on film, which they absolutely nailed. Overall we just wanted to make sure we had a really beautiful, carefree and summer-ey video.”

Written with long-time collaborators Ambian and Sleo, So Personal is the second single taken from Foley’s upcoming body of work and follows on from Rendezvous, which has received nationwide airplay.

Both singles come quickly after the release of their debut EP, On My Conscience earlier this year. The EP hit #10 on the NZ Album Charts and has been streamed millions of times across all platforms, with the tracks Midnight and Cola receiving widespread mainstream radio play in New Zealand. The single Can’t Help The Way also received a nomination for the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll Award in 2019 and hit #2 in the Official NZ Hot 20 charts.

Foley have quickly picked up a fanbase of young like-minded listeners for their confessions of love, loss and learning. The pair has developed a strong point of view as commentators of millennial doubt and confusion. They have never shied from laying bare the stark challenge of navigating love and relationships in your 20's, attempting to piece together some sense around the madness.

A live force to be reckoned with, Foley has played at some of New Zealand’s biggest festivals including Rhythm & Vines. They have shared a stage with acts such as Two Door Cinema Club, Flight Facilities and Crooked Colours, as well as opening for Drax Project on their NZ tour, and Six60’s stadium show in Hamilton early in 2020.

Catch Foley live this Summer where they will appear at Rhythm and Vines, then taking the stage alongside Six60 in New Plymouth on January 30. They also feature at Wellington’s inaugural Peachy Keen Festival on April 3, 2021.
