Award-winning indie-folk artist Mel Parsons has today unveiled her new album Slow Burn.

Slow Burn contains 11 tracks, featuring the new single Failure – a poignant song about struggle and hope.

Others include the already released Tired Of Being You, Carry On, Already Gone and the title track, Slow Burn.

Stacked harmonies, melancholic strings and soaring guitars amplify Parsons’ signature indie-folk sound and make for an impeccable body of work, which fits seamlessly alongside the Lyttelton-based artist’s back catalogue.

“This is my fifth album, and my goal is still the same - I just want to make people feel something,” says Parsons.

The songs on the album were written at Parsons’ home and recorded and produced with Josh Logan at LOHO in Ōtautahi. It was multi-instrumentalist and producer Logan who led the band, playing guitars, piano and backing vocals on the record, along with Parsons’ cousin Jed Parsons on drums and backing vocals, and Aaron Stewart on bass.

“The band came in fresh without having heard any of the songs,” says Parsons. “I think it gave the sessions a vital energy - it’s quite a different thing compared with recording songs that have been toured a lot prior to hitting the studio.”

In celebration of today’s album release, Parsons is embarking on an 11-date national tour, taking in Napier (October 7), Palmerston North (October 8), Tauranga (October 13), Hamilton (October 14), Auckland (October 15), Wellington (October 16), Christchurch (October 29), Kerikeri (November 18), Nelson (November 24), New Plymouth (November 25) and Dunedin (November 26).

It was also a finalist for the 2019 Taite Music Prize and Top 20 finalist at 2019’s APRA Silver Scroll Award.
