Aoteaora’s very own Lou’ana today releases her infectiously liberating dance single Night Creature, along with a kaleidoscopic, dreamy new video.

Lou'ana's unparalleled nu-disco pop sound seamlessly blends vintage instrumentation with contemporary production to deliver an entrancing, upbeat vibe. With its irresistible grooves and introspective lyrics, Night Creature invites listeners to embrace their inner darkness and unlock the mysteries of the self. Get ready to dance and dive into a meditative journey of self-discovery.
“It’s about tapping into my senses and intuition,” explains Lou’ana. “Learning that true “wildness” is hearing my instincts and choosing what is right for me, rather than what I think others or society think is right for me. It’s about being a woman, a human, an animal and celebrating that.”
Produced, recorded and mixed by Nathan Judd in Tāmaki Makaurau, mastered by Mike Munki and made with support from NZ On Air; Lou’ana initially wrote Night Creature without fully knowing what the song was about, explaining it to be her “higher self giving direction and a path to empowerment and liberation.”
"While exploring my own personal shadows, I stumbled upon the idea for this song. I was finding it difficult to move past the pain, but I figured why not turn it into something beautiful? I held off on releasing the song until I felt I was truly embodying its lyrics.”
Also out today is the dreamy accompanying video, co-directed by Lou’ana and Amber Liberte, and co-produced by Lou’ana and Benj Brooking. With visuals inspired by Venus, the Goddess of love and beauty, the Night Creature video reflects the song's message by transcending visually into a journey of self-empowerment and realisation.
“As we dive into a crystal ball, light fractures into kaleidoscope visions,” says Lou’ana.
“Disco ball reflections dance among magenta hues in this surrealistic world of expressive dance and textured fabrics. The altar, where earth, air, fire, and water align with the cardinal directions, is the stage for a journey of self-empowerment through ecstatic dance."
