Hot on the heels of their first headline tour announcement, and barely a month after their recent EP release Mind Made Up, Midwave Breaks stay busy with their latest sonic offering.
Souvenirs is an up-tempo stomper, set against a tight backdrop of building anticipation, punctuated by unison staccato riffs, and juxtaposed against a soaring chorus whose energy doesn’t let up.
The Tauranga Alt-Rock Duo have purposefully pushed the tempo with the new track, as drummer Paul Russell explains: "We really wanted to have some fun with this one, we wanted it upbeat and fairly 'riff-centric’ to add some extra pace to our live shows. It’s a challenge to play live, which was partly the point, to give ourselves something new to sink our teeth into onstage.”
The song acknowledges a misguided tendency towards chasing false highs and accolades in life (collecting souvenirs), and that ultimately it’s far more important and rewarding to just be comfortable in your own skin.”
You can see Midwave Breaks perform the new single Live as part of their 9 show headline NZ Tour across NZ Music Month in May.
