Sea Mouse Take Off With New Single 'Gearbox'

31 March 2023 - 0 Comments

Sea Mouse aren’t stalling around with their single Gearbox that really bursts out of the blocks! They’ve sped up the blues this time around and I think they’re onto something. The best way to describe Gearbox is to imagine what Chuck Berry would sound like if he was the lead guitarist of Led Zeppelin.

It’s fast, gritty, and very dirty so the song title Gearbox is only fitting. Frontman Seamus Johnson explains how the new single came about; “We wrote the song a few years back while I was doing repairs to the gearbox on my truck. My girlfriend was getting frustrated with me cause I wasn't texting her back due to my hands being covered in grease and gearbox oil. I was also just being occupied by a reasonably difficult and complex task….and I guess gearbox is also a reference to hitting the nose beers too”.

The Wellington rock-trio went DUI and produced the single themselves, besides recording at Massey Studios, Wellington and worked with Toby Lloyd from Tiny Triumph who engineered and mixed the single.

Sea Mouse have come off some exciting career highlights as the successful recipient of the NZ On Air funding, performed with NZ legendary supergroup Fly My Pretties and played the TUKI Festival. Their new single Gearbox is out March 24th and now it’s full speed ahead for Sea Mouse!
