The Mara Reveal Melodic Rock Anthem Single 'Candy Sun'

12 January 2024 - 0 Comments

“A voice inside my head, a cloud of desert sand, said take my hand let’s run, into the Candy Sun…”

Taranaki alternative rock group, The Mara, unveils a captivating rock anthem today, crafted to ignite a sense of nostalgia and encourage listeners to belt out their emotions. This potent track features enchanting, mystical piano sequences that gradually escalate into anthemic choruses, complemented by mind-bending guitar solos. It's the kind of song that effortlessly lodges itself in your mind, and you'll gladly let it linger there.

Exemplifying the distinctive sound and overarching vision of The Mara, this dynamic and high-energy track perfectly aligns with their mission to deliver empowering, emotion-evoking, and feel-good anthems, inspired by the likes of Thirty Seconds To Mars and Coldplay.

Lead singer and song writer Jordan Jones channels his passion into crafting songs that intricately connect with his own emotions, delving into memories and sentiments associated with the lyrical essence of his music.

Says Jordan “It’s funny actually, the song name came first, inspired by the pattern name of my Ernie Ball guitar strap ‘Candy Sun’. I thought… that should be a song name, then all these memories and emotions associated with a Candy Sun started flooding in. Namely memories of desert sunsets in Oman where I once lived. The song is about my desire to escape the expectations put on us by the world and live out my dreams. It aims to empower people to question the norm and societal expectations, and to do the thing that sets their heart on fire”

“Working to retire, postponing our desires. The universe- it never stops, don’t let it get away …”

For The Mara, something special is the collaboration involved in making this song.. “It’s been an absolute honour to work with the incredible Rodney Fisher on this track. Goodshirt has always been one of our favorite Kiwi bands and to be working with the frontman is a dream come true really. We really love how he has poured his magic into this. Keyboardist Barbora Varnaite has really captured the emotion of the song and the guitar solo by Jason Vinod is exactly the kick in the gut you want to hear after the build section”. The song was recorded at Swampshack Studio and produced by Rodney Fisher.

The band is currently working with award winning cinematographer, Jared Jones, to create a fun and exciting music video.

Meanwhile Jordan and his band mates Barbora Varnaite, James Mora, Richard Grant, Angela Froitzheim, Jason Vinod and Tom Roberts look forward to releasing another 7 tracks in 2024!
