New Zealand-based dream pop/shoegaze DIY recording artist Young Moon is embarking on a highly anticipated Slow Tour in August 2024, taking their energetic and dynamic live performance across Aotearoa.
Trevor Montgomery, formerly of Tarentel & Lazarus, has been writing and recording brooding ballads and blissful psychedelia as Young Moon for over a decade. Utilizing vintage drum machines and atmospheric synths, Montgomery has a talent for lo-fi tracks with genuine lyrics exploring love, life, and death.
San Francisco ex-pat, Montgomery now calls Whakatū (Nelson) home. He continues to write and record with Young Moon - now transformed into a full live band experience with close friends from the Te Tau Ihu music community.
Montgomery says “The Slow Tour is an opportunity for Young Moon to share the joy we have found as friends making this music. I want to introduce more people to Young Moon and that joy.”
Young Moon will showcase material from the band’s full back-catalogue. This includes the Western Vinyl releases Navigated Like the Swan (2012) and Colt (2016) and the stunning 2023 Orindal Records release Triggered by Sunsets.
Tour Guests
Te Whanganui-a-Tara singer and DIY recording artist Timothy Blackman makes records drawing from deeply personal experiences in hyper realistic narratives. In 2019 he released Brightest Days, his first album in eight years, written during a period of time spent hiding out on the East Cape. Five years on he is back performing shows, testing out new songs before embarking on a new recording project backed by guitar and sometimes a small band.
Performing exclusively at the Auckland show is New Zealand’s shoegaze powerhouse She's So Rad. SSR’s debut record, In Circles, recorded in the spare room of Jeremy Toy and Anji’s Sami’s apartment, was nominated for the Taite Prize 2012. SSR found a fan in Ladyhawke that same year going on to to play support for Ladyhawke’s UK tour. Highly regarded follow-up album Tango was released in 2015 to 5-Star reviews “ their second excellent album, somehow manages to be both upbeat and moody, creating a shimmering, pulsating, dreamy 10-track collection.”
