The first funding round for the new funding year!
The good news is that the budget for doing music videos has been increased - this funding year, we will do 110 projects (compared with 100 last year).
But even with an increase in the budget, it's still tough. We can only do an average of 18-19 projects in each two month round. In this first funding round for the new year, we got 86 applications. Of the 86, 48 made it to the shortlist. That's 48 contenders.
We will do 18 projects. Each project will get $5,000 to make a music video.
Decisions are based on airplay potential after testing the songs with music video broadcasters and taking into account current radio priorities:
* Pluto - 'Perfectly Evil' (Antenna Recordings)
* Tadpole - 'Rock 'n' Roll' (Antenna Recordings)
* Ubana - 'One' (Antenna Recordings)
* Carly Binding - 'For What It's Worth' (Festival Mushroom Records)
* Betchadupa - 'Life Will Be The Same' (Flying Nun Records)
* Mama Said - 'Elements' (Intergalactic Records)
* Concord Dawn - 'Morning Light' (Kog Transmissions)
* Unique - 'Outspoken' (Kog Transmissions)
* D2S - 'Ride With Me' (Mai Music)
* Barry Saunders - 'Amsterdam' (Mana Music)
* Mace & The Woodcut Crew - 'Shake'm' (Offcut Records)

* Jester - 'Enemy' (Tenvor Productions)
* Elemeno P - 'Saturday' (Universal Music)
* K'Lee - 'Tonight' (Universal Music)
* Bryan Bell - 'Baggage' (Wildside Records)
NEW RECORDINGS:
Another 8 new recording projects out of another massive mailbag of 172 applications. Each project will get $5,000 to record a song for radio. Decisions are based on commercial radio airplay potential, using commercial radio expertise and experience and testing the songs with commercial radio programmers:
* Crumb - 'Pick Up The Pieces' (Antenna Recordings)
* DJ Raw - 'Downtown' (2Much Music)
* Golden Horse - 'Maybe Tomorrow' (Siren Records)
* Mightyscoop - 'What's The Story' (Independent)
* Paselode - 'C'mon Hallelujah' (Wildside Records)
* Rhombus - 'R-R-R Rhombus' (Moko Entertainment)
* Scooter - 'Fooling You' (Soulfire Entertainment)
* Taisha - 'I'll Go' (Manawa Productions)
RADIO HITS:
(Based on airplay in the April/June 2002 quarter)
Another 7 Radio Hits rebates for songs that have picked up significant airplay on commercial radio in the second quarter of 2002. Each project will get $5,000 (or the actual cost of recording and releasing the single, whichever is the lesser).
Decisions are based on analysing the RadioScope Airplay Charts which are in turn based on airplay returns from 146 radio stations around the country.
Note that songs that have picked up significant airplay in this quarter but have already been funded via the Phase Four Album or New Recording schemes are not eligible for Radio Hits funding as well.
* Anika Moa - 'Falling In Love Again' (Warner Music)
* P-Money - 'Synchronise Thoughts' (Dirty/Kog Transmissions)
* The D4 - 'Exit To The City' (Flying Nun Records)
* Blindspott - 'S.U.I.T' (PMF Incorporated/EMI New Zealand)
* Carly Binding - 'Taking It Easy' (Festival Mushroom Records)
* K'Lee - 'A Lifetime Left To Wait' (Universal Music)
* Pluto - 'Bananas In The Mist' (Antenna Recordings)
