Music News - Rippon Festival Announces Line-Up

Rippon Festival Announces Line-Up

01 August 2013 - 0 Comments

As they celebrate their tenth Rippon Festival with a line-up that organisers describe as “gorgeously feisty”, Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated has announced the artists performing at Rippon 2014.

Scheduled for Saturday 1st February next year at Wanaka’s Rippon Vineyard, the bill features The Phoenix Foundation, Electric Wire Hustle, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Die! Die! Die!, Ladi6, Myele Manzanza, Home Brew, Brockaflowersaurus-Rex, Some Other Planets, The Digg and Kody Nielson (formerly of The Mint Chicks). Special guests Ria Hall, P Digsss, KPz, and Sunshine Sound System complete the mix.

Local musician Danny Fairley (aka Civilian Sol) has won a coveted slot performing in the Rippon Hall at the 2014 event, alongside Warren Maxwell, Jesse Sheehan, Zoe Moon and Silver Scroll winner, Lips.

Rippon Festival founder and director Lynne Christie admits the Rippon line up has never been ‘terribly normal’ and commends the bravery of the average festival-goer for their willingness to “embrace the ever-changing face of New Zealand music”.

Event Manager, Lisa Simmers confirms that the GoldMember ticket option will once again be available for festival-goers who value protection from the elements, along with access to the  Rippon Hall café-bar and restrooms. “Some of our customers have been attending Rippon since last millennium and appreciate the option of a more sophisticated festival experience”, says Simmers.

Lake Wanaka SouNZ Incorporated which runs the biennial event, is now into its seventeenth year and Rippon has been recognised as the nation’s longest-running festival of its kind, solely promoting the music of Kiwi artists. Christie mentions that the mounting excitement of celebrating the 10th Rippon Festival has resulted in many added surprises for the upcoming event. Jo Mills, Manager of Rippon Vineyard, adds the Mills family are “thrilled to be celebrating this milestone of such an iconic mainstay on the festival calendar”.

Site Manager Jamie Norman, who is approaching his tenth year working on the festival, informs that earthworks completed on the amphitheatre in April have created a smoother dance floor experience for patrons, and credits the people who attend the event for providing the “amazing vibe” at the vineyard.

The non-profit society has donated nearly $80 000 over the past twelve years to such causes as the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal, Wanaka Wastebusters, Te Kakano Trust, Pembroke Park, and local schools.

With past festivals selling out well in advance of the February festival date, organisers are expecting tickets for the Rippon 2014 event to move quickly. Tickets go on sale on September 7th through Ticketek and Café Gusto (Wanaka).
