SONGS FROM THE INSIDE VOL II
IN STORES TODAY
In season two of the popular Maori TV show Songs From The Inside - much loved Kiwi musicians Anika Moa, Don McGlashan, Laughton Kora, and Annie Crummer taught 12 inmates – six men and six women from Auckland’s Poremoremo and Manukau Prisons – the complex art of writing, performing and recording their own songs over a period of 12 weeks.
The series concludes this evening on Maori TV and culminates in the body of work created by the inmates during the course of the filming Songs From The Inside Vol II which is released today.
The 14-track album features intense, extremely honest and personal songs all written by the inmates with guidance from their mentors.
The programmes Director and Producer Julian Arahanga states “This album is a heartbreaking yet beautiful ode to the truth these prisoners have spoken via the music they’ve created”.
The 14 heartfelt tracks on the album range in genre from country to reggae, R&B, pop, rock n’ roll and hip-hop. On sale today at all good music stores, Amplifier and via iTunes
