Waiheke Island based singer-songwriter Mahoney Harris releases her debut album We Didn’t Feel Alone on Friday, September 19th.
We Didn’t Feel Alone is a set of beautifully crafted folk-pop tunes tackling the age-old questions of life, loss and love. This unique collection is tastefully enhanced by some of the country’s leading musicians, including Andrew Keoghan, Ben King, Matthias Jordan, Wayne Bell and Tom Healy.
It all started with a successful PledgeMe campaign to raise funds for recording.
“I had recorded a bunch of demos with Wayne Bell and was ready to record but financial constraints held me back for a long time, until finally I headed to PledgeMe. I was humbled by the response.” Mahoney says.
She enlisted friend and previous collaborator, Tom Healy (Paquin, Tiny Ruins, Popstrangers) to produce the album. Tom’s elegant electric guitar can be heard on most tracks, while Wayne Bell’s talents abound on drums and various other instruments.
Recording sessions took place sporadically over a period of 15 months, snatching weekends here and there whilst juggling musician availability, motherhood and Mahoney’s job as a music publicist.
The result is a set of simple yet lovingly crafted songs that hark back to another era while somehow remaining firmly planted in the here and now. Her tenderly understated style imbues the album with a lightness of touch, and with production by Healy and mastering by Oliver Harmer, the songs are freshly realised and sonically delicious.
Mahoney and her band will be performing an album release show at The Wine Cellar on Thursday September 18th with special guests Hopetoun Brown. Show starts at 8.30pm.
We Didn’t Feel Alone is available via Amplifer, iTunes and all good digital outlets.
