Native Tongue Welcomes Paul McLaney

19 June 2015 - 0 Comments

It is with great pleasure that Native Tongue New Zealand welcomes Paul McLaney to the company as Writer Relations Manager.

Paul will commence his new role from June 22.

Most of you will know Paul personally given that he has been a stalwart of the New Zealand music scene for many years now, as a composer, musician, publisher and advocate for the industry via numerous positions on various industry related boards.

He spent the last six years as General Manager of Mushroom Music Publishing in New Zealand.

General Manager Jaime Gough said, “We believe Paul is the ideal person to assist us in working with our roster of gifted New Zealand songwriters, to help further their careers both at home and abroad,”

“Paul already knows most of our songwriters and is highly respected by all areas of the industry, so he will add a lot of value to what we are already achieving in New Zealand.”

Paul comes to us at an exciting time with new albums about to launch by Gin Wigmore, The Warratahs and The Phoenix Foundation, to name a few.

Writers such as Mel Parsons, Marlon Williams, Don McGlashan, Warren Maxwell (TrinityRoots) and Jolyon Mulholland have recently released albums, which continue to garner critical and audience acclaim.

Paul McLaney commented, "Native Tongue enjoy such a talented roster of songwriters and I'm very excited to be working with all of them. It will be a privilege to assist in navigating the music industry in such a transitional phase; as we all know that without great songs there is no industry and that artistry is the keystone.”

Native Tongue composers are also doing well with David Long’s Wot Wot’s children’s TV series theme and Plan 9’s music for the Hobbit movies still enjoying success around the world. In addition Claire Cowan, The Phoenix Foundation writers and Karl Steven have all been busy with new TV series or feature films.

Local charts feature Native Tongue Publishing in music by Major Lazer, Six60, Skrillex & Diplo, Deorro X Chris Brown, Mark Ronson and Meghan Trainor, among others.

Paul joins Licensing Manager Natalie Wilson and Administration Manager Taryn Viggiano in the New Zealand office while Managing Director Chris Gough continues to focus on business strategy and development.

Besides those mentioned above, Native Tongue Music Publishing represents some of NZ’s most lauded songwriters, including Dave Dobbyn, The Black Seeds, Julia Deans, Finn Andrews, Greg Johnson, Goldenhorse, Shayne Carter, Delaney Davidson, French For Rabbits, Flip Grater, Hollie Smith, Ladi6, Shapeshifter, Sheep Dog & Wolf, Andrew Keoghan and The Eastern to name just a few.

The company also represents a variety of international writers and catalogues for Australia and New Zealand, including works of Elvis Presley, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Roy Orbison and Tom Waits, along with songs by Lorde, Armin van Buuren, Counting Crows, Daft Punk, Diplo, Foals, Justice, The Kills, Major Lazer, MIA, Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Tiesto.
