Crossing genres with a smooth undercurrent of modern jazz, local duo After ‘Ours proudly release their debut album Odyssey.
Auckland based, After ‘Ours comprises multi-instrumentalist/producer, Nick Williams, a drummer since the age of three, and Polish-born professional pianist/composer, Michal Martyniuk. Both experienced performers, Nick and Michal relished the challenge of writing and producing together in their home studio, and have created something that they are truly delighted with.
The album has been five years in the making, with the pair adopting the moniker After ‘Ours as a nod to how the album came about – coming together outside usual work hours for their passion project. Filled to the brim with collaborations, Odyssey features guest appearances from seven artists, including multiple contributions from Basement Jaxx vocalist Sharlene Hector, British R&B artist Kevin Mark Trail and New Zealand jazz musician Nathan Haines.
A genuine bringing together of souls, Sharlene appreciated having the opportunity to work on Odyssey: “I had the best time recording with After 'Ours and creating something special. This music is for anyone who wants to hear what it sounds like when friends get together and become family!”
The debut single See The Light, having a fusion of the classic Rhodes sound and grooving hip-hop, premiered on George FM to great acclaim, and instantly became an audience favourite with its settled sunny vibe.
Bringing together jazz, hip-hop, soul and R&B in a unique interplay of genres, Odyssey will be released on 16th September via StudioZone, an independent New Zealand label.
