New Zealand singer-songwriter, producer and musician Solomon Crook has released his new single - the powerful and beautiful The Day I Thought About Dying - from his upcoming EP set for release in 2020.
Listen on Apple (available now) / Spotify (available at 5pm).
The Day I Thought About Dying blends layerings of intricate and ambient instrumentation with Solomon’s unmistakable voice and heartfelt lyrics to deliver a mighty song packed with emotion and meaning, which teeters on the brink of despair and pure joy.
Hailing from the Coromandel and now based in Wellington, Solomon explains that The Day I Thought About Dying is the epitome of a true collaborative project. Several parts of the song were written at a writing camp at the small beachside town of Waitarere. Solomon then approached fellow singer-songwriter Tyrun, who helped him to come up with the song’s chorus and hook.
The final piece of the puzzle was getting producer Devin Abrams (Drax Project, Pacific Heights, Shapeshifter) on board. “I met Devin at Massey University where he was lecturing. He instantly connected with The Day I Thought About Dying and proposed to take over the production reigns.”

Solomon started turning heads when he came third in the national finals of Smokefree Rockquest in 2015. He went on to release his debut EP Abandon Adolescence to critical acclaim, featuring the single Love Juice.
He followed it up with the singles Race Car and Rise and now The Day I Thought About Dying - all from his second EP, which is scheduled for release in 2020.
Solomon is a mesmerising performer who has opened for the likes of Amy Shark, The Teskey Brothers and Thomas Oliver. For him, music has always been a source of internalising, understanding and healing, allowing listeners to relate on a personal level forming a deep connection with his music.
Sit back and let The Day I Thought About Dying take you on a journey.
