Warner Music is to relaunch Mushroom Records as a local imprint for new New Zealand and Australian music.
And although not confirmed yet, we feel safe enough in predicting the new operation is to be run by one-time Mushroom staff member Chris Guzzwell, who resigned last week as SonyBMG Promotions Manager.
Particularly since their takeover of FMR, Warner Music has a substantial local music roster, a combination of direct signings like the feelers, Anika Moa and Evermore and the FMR stable including Goodnight Nurse, Dimmer, 48May, Carly Binding, King Kapisi and the Flying Nun bands. Whether some, or all, of these move now to Mushroom remains to be seen, however, the new Scribe album is expected to be one of the imprint's first big projects.
