I totally agree with simon_ishtar.

I have heard very similar stories about jonny and the robba and there efforts in launchpad - then using the funding they recieved not for musical efforts.

It pisses me off that there are other bands in NZ that deserve it much more than them, and work so much harder for it, and will have funding stolen out from under them by some cheating bastards who just dont give a shit.

all of NZ's best musicians hav gone overseas like sam from dragonforce, the datsuns, steriogram, blindspott, 8ft. dnt be putting down bands like goodnight nurse and 48 may, they virgin tight bands all can play live. their music might not be the greatest but shit loads of time goes into rehursal.......

I don't know what NZ charts you're looking at.

Probably the "Bow_DoWn_Biartch Best Songs Ever Top 40", which translates to the rest of us as "Shit We'd Never Listen To Except Under Treat Of Pins In Our Eyes Top 40".

Fast Crew only got to #4 on the OFFICIAL New Zealand charts.

Oh, and I'm not Michael Jackson, I don't suck on boys.

It's all opinions at the end of the day. Some people in this site really need to get off their fucking high horses and realise that there's no "one" band that everyone in the known universe likes. For instance: I fucking hate BlindSpott and their bullshit poormans Limp Bizkit/Linkin Park crap music. They know they sound like those bands because on their website they even say something like "we were doing this before anyone in NZ had even heard of Linkin Park". Why even say it?! Paranoid mother fuckers! Would that brainless bitch Nikki Watson have even given Shelton the time of day if he wasn't BlindSpotts drummer? Does their singer think that screaming some of the lines in their songs is original and/or cleverl? Did he honestly think that someone would not pick up on his bad use of grammar i.e. "Don't worry, I'll drive real slow...". It's "I'll drive REALLY slow" or "I'll drive slowly" you dislexic piece of shit!!!

On the few occasions I've met them they all seemed allright.

I don't think my post is that contradictory at all. What I said was, not everyone likes one particular band and then proceeded to prove this by giving Blindspott the big finger i.e. a lot of people like Blindspott but I don't. By high-horse I meant all of this "my opinion's better than your opinion" crap that goes on. I don't expect everyone to agree with me so I don't really see the point in all of these people debating which band is worse (or gayer...but I hate that terminology). But then again, I guess that's what an open forum is for.

Anyway, if you're a Blindspott fan then more power to you but I think they suck!

...one more thing for Simon_Ishtar. You said that you've met Blindspott and they're nice guys. I'm sure they are but I wasn't really talking about them as people, more about their music and image. It's easy to confuse the two. As Kurt Cobain once said "The saddest thing about musicians is that once they're famous they think they're intelligent as well". This pretty much sums up a lot of problems I have with the industry hype-machine.

I just dont like the musician attitude in general - but alot of what they say is just media hype. It has to be done - a band has to say, or do something that make them stand out from others.

The thing i dont appreciate with NZ music is how hip hop artists appear to think they are from america.

If you want to be a rip off of an overseas market, think about all the dei hamo music videos.

Steriogram are about as original as it gets with having a sound like no-one else, and not copying everyone else.

Nicky Watson is hot.

I'm not a fan of hip-hop in general and I know what you mean about how the majority of our Polynesian youth are living out some sort of "Gangsta" fantasy. But like everything there's an exception to the rule.

Dei Hamo is a good example of what you're talking about. The guy even speaks with some sort of wierd quasi-North American accent...what's that about?! But then there's guys like King Kapisi and Che Fu, they're good at what they do and have a distinct NZ/Pasifika feel to what they do.

Sorry to dissapoint you again, but as original as Steriogram are...I think they are a crap gimicky band. I don't think that being original makes a band good by default. The Feelers are quite original but they're another one of these D grade bands with access to A grade production and marketing that continually get signed.

It's a sad state of affairs but the major labels are usually out to sign soft-cock rock or so-called "punk" bands these days. If it weren't for all of the independants out there willing to take a punt on something different NZ would be wholly screwed!!!!
