Capentry was on to a good thing, seems it only takes one post to turn this thread back into genre mud slinging... How one can say Rage Against the Machine has "shit basslines" is beyond me... wouldn't killing in the name of be one of the most recognised bass riffs ever? Bombtrack, pretty nice riff there too... And the drummer was there to drive the whole band, not play tricky and show off his talents... all in all one of the best bands to take the stage in the last decade or so.

Mind you someone's going to post on this and say I'm completely wrong... I await with baited breath.

my bad "KIERAN" .. and no im not dissing him. Kieran was the reason for me starting to play in rock bands - im listening to Opus mp3's now, and the chops he played when he was 17 are better than most drummers i know in there 20's or 30's.

Im not suggesting he is the best drummer EVER, but i definitely rate him.

the BEST drummer ever is Nicko Mcbrain.

What about Steve Gadd, Dave Weckle or Manu Katche? Accomplished drummers probably a little better than Iron Maiden's skin beater.

The drummer from Iron Maiden looks like Eric Idle....
Saw the video for number of the beast and questioned it's integrity.....
....he reeeeeeally looked like Eric Idle taking the piss and in fact the whole band was shocking, almost as bad as Pussy Glitch.
Not in the way that the music was bad (it was) coz that would be asking for it but just the tights and assorted spandex this and that.

dave weckyl, steve gadd, will calhoun, all well accomplished drummers agreed. I saw a video with Nicko Mcbrain, and there is no way he can be understated as a bad drummer, he rates up there with all of those lads .. different in style though.

You wont believe it until you see him play solo though

from a non drummer's perspective I particularly like the way Nicko doesn't overuse cymbals. also I think the first drummer I encountered who used China's really well.
Compare him to clive burr and he is so much more right for Maiden too, ie. what the fuck was he thinking going into that van halenesque bit in Ganglands?

He was very good live when Maiden played here (1992?)

it isn't about much else other than venting over unworthy bands getting money dude.
it isn't supposed to be mature or terribly helpful to anyone.
it doesn't have to be.

some of the bands mentioned are crap, some are mediocre some reach ok, some are supposed to be great, in that case they're probably being tall poppied.

Though in many cases it is a kind of backhanded compliment to be mentioned on a thread like this.
