Valkyrie unleash their latest single, Closer, a soulful and powerful anthem of strength and unity, inspired by larger-than-life musical icons John Lennon and Bob Marley.
Closer was originally written in a bedroom in 2017, before finally being recorded just this year, encapsulating memories of an intoxicating teen summer, and the need to keep them from fading away. They didn't know it at the time, but the song helped them reach spiritual enlightenment, and playing it live has become a natural high for Valkyrie.
Rebel Reid says of the track, “Closer is a frequency of energy… more than just a song”.
Valkyrie are a South Auckland born and raised three-piece made up of Omer Gilroy, Rebel Reid and Brandon Haru (Ladi6), who have already have a number of great achievements under their belt, from playing on the main stage of Splore twice, to being nominated for a Waiata Maori Music Award on more than one occasion. They consistently serve up a dynamic and wild set of musical and visual delights which has made them a favourite in the national festival circuit.
