Epitome was a 4-piece Independent Alternative Grunge Rock band, whose sound has been described as a blend of melodic catchy hooks shredding guitar solo's, heavy cymbals and raw punchy bass. Epitome has a unique sound that they reserve as their own.
Starting out as a 3-piece under the name Dissident the band released its first demo Consequence after being together for 3 months. That in turn lead to a name change and 7-track demo EP entitled Testing The Waters which has now sold out. The EP produced two singles You Will Be Mine and Fade. You Will Be Mine was released as a video and played on C4 music TV and Fade received airplay on B-net stations. Epitome also toured over the summer of 2004 with Mozelee and Fourth Member to promote the release of the EP. The tour was a great success finishing up to a packed house at the Empire Tavern.
Following on from the success of Testing The Waters and with the addition of Sam Kingston on guitar, Epitome recruited Dave Rhodes to produce the new single
Wait Your Turn. The single was released in September 2004, with the first run of copies selling out at the first release show. The song was warmly received by fans & media and has received airplay on Mainstream (including rotation on The Rock) and B-net radio stations. Epitome accompanied this release with a new video, which received Airplay on C4 Music TV, Juice TV, and XSTV.
Epitome's ambitions are clear: They aim to be the best alternative modern rock band New Zealand has seen, since the likes of Pacifier, The Datsuns or Steriogram. Constantly in the face of the media, Epitome has generated large amounts of positive feedback from industry critics and fans alike. Epitome have just released their second commercial single Tighten The Noose recorded at York St with Dave Rhodes as producer/engineer, and mastered at 301 studios in Sydney, Australia. To Accompany this, they have released a kick ass new music video, filmed by Madness Productions, and edited by Central Post Operations (Andrew Treeby).
Highlights from the past few years include:
- Radio airplay rotation of the single Wait Your Turn on The Rock & Kiwi (NZ’s two biggest Rock Stations)
The single was produced by Dave Rhodes (Stylus & Blindspott)
- TV Airplay of the videos Wait Your Turn and You Will Be Mine on C4 Music TV & Juice (Jim Beam 120 & Viewers Choice)
- Live TV Interview on C4 Music TV (Amp’d with Jono)
- Airplay on B-net radio stations with previous single Fade
- Live appearances Maori TV and The Good morning show on TV1 with Mary Lambie late in 2003
- An independent summer tour in early ’04 with Mozelee and Fourth Member
- An independent self promoted summer tour in early ’05 with support from Fourth Member and Like A Storm
- Shows with Stylus, Tadpole, Nesian Mystik, Fast Crew, Augustino, Misfits Of Science, Wash, OpShop, Redline, & Steriogram.
- Sponsorship deals with Coastlines Surfwear, Audiopro, and Jansen Pro Audio.
Epitome were placed 2nd in NZ in the 2005 battle of the bands competition.
Epitome disbanded in late-2006.

EPITOME TO CALL IT A DAY Posted: Wed Jul 19, 2006 8:59 am OK guys, This is finally it .. Epitome have stuck together through thick and thin .. through 4 and a half years of gruelling competition, and come above it all. Having placed 2nd in the NZ National Final of 2005's Battle Of The Bands competition, complete 2 north island tours, had 2 commercial radio singles, and 3 music videos, due to personal reasons Epitome have decided to call it a day. Grant is about to get married - and we wish him the best for that, Sam also due to get married early next year, Warren with other pursuits, and Carl continuing on with music. We would love to thankyou all so much from the bottom of our hearts for the support you have shown us over the last few years. On a higher note, We will be completing our debut album "Pass The Blame" in our spare time, as for scheduled release in early '07, and will be releasing that at our farewell party with one hell of a bang. We would love to extend our personal thanks to the following people who have been amazing ... Jono Pryor, Robert Taylor, Dave Rhodes, Chris Yong, Suzi Cotter, Louise from Area 51, Boyd Thwaites, Lisa Saunders, Andrew Treeby, Brendon Lodge, and especially PAT CALLIS (you have been our hero Pat). Also thanks to all of those who we have left off this list - it doesnt mean your not important, just that im having a mind block writing this. we look forward to seeing you in other projects along the way. Carl, Grant, Warren, Sam EPITOME www.myspace.com/epitome |
