Eqwanox

Bio

"The band strings together tight gripping melodies and strong vocals/backing vocals and produced one outrageously great album" – Muzic.net.nz

"I like the name Eqwanox, it’s spelt differently and that’s what you need, something that’s different from the rest so you can market the idea" - GILBY CLARKE (Guns N Roses//Rockstar Supernova)

EQWANOX are a Rock band from the Waikato with Punk, Grunge and Pop Rock elements.

They were formed in Te Awamutu (Home of the Finn Brothers) in 2004 while still at high school and have built up a diverse fan base, mainly from their live shows which is something they pride themselves on.

They have been able to share this live performance with audiences on some of New Zealand’s biggest stages with a number of musical friends and heroes such as SEETHER, BILLY CORGAN (Smashing Pumpkins, USA), GLUE (Australia), The Bleeders, Luger Boa, Midnight Youth, Autozamm, Stylus, The Rabble, Falter, 5star Fallout and have also been an annual Smokefree Rockquest Guest Band since 2006.

The band placed 1st in the 2009 Axces Bar Rattle the Room competition, made the National Final of the World Battle Of The Bands (Aired live on ALT TV), KFC’s NZ Music Month ‘Sounds From Your Hometown’ competition and have performed live for JUICE TV’s The JD Set.

The band has received a numerous amount of radio play in New Zealand since 2005 when they made their radio debut on The Rock FM with the song 'Less Than Negative'. Their music has also featured on New Zealand TV on shows such as C4’s Studentville and M.E.A.T.Y, Prime’s The Red Shift and music videos for 'Killing Time' and 'Invincible' have been aired on NZ Music TV.

All of the above has now lead to the release of their debut album 'All Roads Lead From Here' which was recorded at Number 8 Wire Recording Studio by Chazz Valentine and Dudley Studios by Captain Hook (48May). The album features 10 anthemic Rock tracks written and recorded while the band were still in their teens.

The albums leading single '21st Story' is an epic party sing-a-long with huge guitars and an even huger chorus. It has been released as a FREE online download on MySpace and Amplifier and will be hitting the radio airwaves in early 2010.

'All Roads Lead From Here' is out now online worldwide with its physical release due April 5 2010 through Isaac Promotions and Border Music.

EQWANOX are driven to succeed, yet determined to have fun in the process, and have since the beginning had the attitude "Don't wait for things to happen, make things happen".

EQWANOX proudly support The New Zealand Child Cancer Foundation and the 'Fill The House' Tickets Project - which sources tickets to shows for CCF families, because "We believe kids should not die before their parents".

Giant Step for Eqwanox
Posted: Sun Jul 31, 2005 2:20 pm
By Dean Taylor

Te Awamutu teenagers James Hanright, Nick Douch and Aaron Clark have always looked up to Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins as one of their musical idols, but never thought they would share the same stage.

Collectively the three form the hard rock trio Eqwanox, which despite only having a handful of live shows under their belt, can lay claim to having opened for an international act.

The opportunity to open for Billy Corgan came after a chance introduction between one of Nick’s Te Awamutu College schoolmates and a promotions officer for the Child Cancer Foundation.

The band was given the once over by Tony ‘Nail’ Vincent of World Battle of the Bands winners Chuganaut and Paul Martin of the Rock FM’s Axe Attack, who endorsed them as an opening act for the show.

While the band has been about for some years as the brainchild of the elder James (1Cool, it has been as the trio with his two 16-year-old mates that it has developed its strongest sound.

James lays claim to the songwriting role, with help from the others to complete and arrange the material.

They say they enjoy listening to the likes of The Foo Fighters, Shihad, Sum 41, Nirvana and, of course, the Smashing Pumpkins, but have their own sound.

On Sunday night they shared that sound with hundreds of people packed into Auckland’s St James for Corgan’s New Zealand show - and received a great response.

“We were amazed. We didn’t expect people to scream just because we walked on stage,” says Nick.

Show organisers were happy to give the young up-and-comers a chance to show their stuff and were pleased with the way Eqwanox immediately connected with the crowd.
