RE: Rock2WGTN Posted: Mon Jan 28, 2008 2:21 pm Hehe well i'm 35 and have been a fan since i was 6 so i NEVER want it to end. the reunion tour only happened once, then it was the supposed farewell your, and it was a farewell of sorts...a farewell of the ORIGINAL members, and as much as i love ace and peter, as long as gene and paul are there then thats good enough for me. Music of today is NOTHING on the 70's-80's. We will NEVER see bands like Zeppelin, Purple, KISS, Ozzy, Alice, Aerosmith and even leppard and bjovi. We will ever see that longtivity again. RE: Rock2WGTN Posted: Mon Jan 28, 2008 2:48 pm I think its cool that an old band comes out for a few shows now and then, even if theyre supposedly finished. Even if its just to make money, keeps a great many people happy. I think we'll see longivity again in bands (providing the right ingredients are there) its just that at the moment crap seems to be all they serve on the menu. Like when you look at it, every era has had bands that people still talk about... from Beethoven to Elvis to The Beatles to Zeppelin to Nirvana to Metallica to whatever. It's just a shame that these days people seem to churn out albums without much thought. These are my humble opinions |

If you peel back the surface of the shitty "retro rock" that's so huge at the moment you'll find a plethora of really really good bands that have been around for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages. And I'm not talking bad 70's knockoffs like Wolfmother either, really good stuff with the "spirit" of rock that I thought was long dead. (Clutch, Grand Magus, High on Fire, The Awesome Machine, Spiritual Beggars spring to mind) Good rock never died, it's just lurking in the shadows watching, pointing and laughing at the rest of the passing rock fads. |

RE: Rock2WGTN Posted: Thu Jan 31, 2008 12:39 am that was deep. there will always be bands that become immortilized in time through their uniqueness its just that you dont get to see that till 10 or 20 years down the track. as an example i think that in 20 year people will look at bands such as tool and see how their new style of music influenced bands for years to come as zepplin or sabbath did. its all about being different from anything else out there that gets you immortilised. counting down the days till this epic fest! btw that bus deal is really good but im stolked with my flight from auck 2 welly 4 just 138 return. |

RE: Rock2WGTN Posted: Fri Feb 1, 2008 7:22 am Hair metal is what you get when posers from LA caught onto British Metal. A self-indulgent image-based genre that was the nu-metal of the day. The good hair bands were just a touch heavier and a little less gay than the rest. Skid Row and GnR were those for me. |

RE: Rock2WGTN Posted: Sun Feb 3, 2008 3:53 pm No i agree, todays music is crap compared to any of the classic rock from the 60's & 70's like Zeppelin, Purple, Sabbath, Floyd etc.. no one will ever remember any of todays forgetable garbage in 30years! Looking forward to seeing Ozzy & Whitesnake at Rock2WGTN, it's gonna go off!! |

RE: Rock2WGTN Posted: Sun Feb 3, 2008 9:51 pm Look a little harder. cheesy elvis fans daniel? I hope your not indicating that elvis himself was cheesy because that would make you look a little silly. please, correct me. for those of you who think music today isn't as good as it was 30 years ago, I think you might want to try digging a little deeper than solely looking at whats shoved in front of your face. todays music isn't worse, it's just different and has developed from what it was years ago. |

RE: Rock2WGTN Posted: Mon Feb 4, 2008 10:17 am Craig's 100% correct. Good music is there, you've just gotta look further than C4 and The Rock to find it. |

RE: Rock2WGTN Posted: Mon Feb 4, 2008 12:08 pm Oh I agree there is GREAT music of today especially in my fav hard rock field. But my point was that alot of the bands today wont end up having that "legendary" status like the bands i mentioned in an earlier thread. Most of the bands i like now are the European hard rock acts like Pink Cream 69, Pretty Maids, Bonfire, Axel Rudi Pell, Gotthard, Lordi and Wig Wam, as well as the US bands like House Of Lords, Crown Of Thorns, Dokken, Harem Scarem, WASP. Most of the people i work with dont even know who these bands are. But does that stop me enjoying their GREAT music? NO WAY!!!! The above bands probably have as many cool songs as the MAJOR acts of today, but unfortunately thats not enough now days. If your not MAINSTREAM ur nothing in the eyes of many....NOT ME THOUGH!!! We've just reached FEB and ROCK2WGTN is getting closer....lets just celebrate the music and the bands we LOVE!!! they wont be around forever. LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL!!!!
