RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Tue Sep 23, 2008 11:19 pm Heard last night from an old mate of mine who worked the Priest gig in Oz. He had seen then back in the 80s while working in the UK. He was disappointed with Halford. Keith reckons that he can't hit the high notes anymore. Reckoned he was singing a key lower than he used too. Overall he said it wasn't a bad gig though. Interesting to hear towards the end of next year. AC/DC's management have been making enquiries about gear availability in CHCh around Labour Weekend 2009. Possibly a link there I am told. |

Mind you, he is 60. He kept that voice right into his fifties, which is longer than most dinosaurs from back then (Ian Gillan comes to mind, his voice has been shot since the 80's). |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Thu Sep 25, 2008 12:16 am Yeah I guess thats a fair point. Gillanw as terrible a few years back in New Plymouth. He couldn't do the high notes then. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Thu Sep 25, 2008 7:33 am Yeah it's a damn shame too. I guess when guys like Gillan started, they didn't know what they were doing, just *discovered* he had this amazingly high voice, but didn't know how to harness and look after it, and blew it out. David Bowie is another one, his early stuff is quite high, but mid-late 70's onwards his voice has gotten deeper and deeper - it's worked in his favour in my opinion though. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Sun Sep 28, 2008 4:15 am Rock2Auckland? Not a chance. Phil doesn't like Auckland. Fair enough too. It's hard enough doing small gigs up here these days and getting anything of a crowd even with decent advertising. Theres a strange thing going on up here though... It seems totally unpredictable. Judas Priest cancelling with the unremarkable presales and then on the complete other side of the coin; I heard Missy Elliot (Yes I know...) also cancelled for the very same reason. Then look at Def Leppard's ticket sales. Doing really well. Who knows whats going on. And then with the worlds economy doing a back flip I think we'll be seeing a bit of a decline in bands coming over. Of course thats the pessimist in me speaking! But it does make sense. And besides, Rock2CHCH looks cooler heh! I put my money on AC/DC, Metallica, one night only and in Christchurch. I could be wrong... But I hope not. Because it would be awesome. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Mon Sep 29, 2008 9:04 am What's going on eh? I think one problem with the Vector Arena opening is that suddenly there too many gigs at too higher a price. We've seen some of the world's biggest names play here over the last year and to be honest I don't that there enough people with enough money to go to that many shows. Billy Joel tickets start a $350, which is outrageous. The best bargain for me recently was Muse at the Trusts Stadium last year for $69, not bad to see a band that recently sold out two nights at Wembley Stadium. Maybe Judas Priest should've booked to play there too like Slipknot have. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Mon Sep 29, 2008 9:29 am Ticket prices are just off the hook right now. When I saw Metallica in 1998, I payed about $60 (give or take a few bucks). |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Thu Oct 2, 2008 3:07 pm I'd be guessing during one of his solo jaunts, 70's or 80's. (or are we talking with Deep Purple) This message was edited by K.I.N.G on Thu Oct 2, 2008 3:08 pm. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Fri Oct 3, 2008 12:07 pm When? Jeeze it must have been mid eighties perhaps? Don't ask me the exact year.Shortly after the reformation in 1984, one of the gangs up there (Hells Angels???) brought Deep Purple out & they played at the Bowl. We worked the pack in while we were touring with a stage show. I remember doing side of stage dimmers duty. Think Gillan may ahve been back with Purple since minus Blackmore of course. While I have you all I had a dream last night....Rock2CCH at Westpac arena, Queens Birthday 2009 & Motorhead was the headline act! Then the kids woke me up from my slumber so I didn't get any other acts sorry dudes! Man it was vivid. Was standing right in the middle of a packed arena as Morohead started up there gig with Ace Of Spades! This message was edited by TheRoadie on Sat Oct 4, 2008 12:39 am. |

Caught them in about 2004 (??? can't quite recall) in ChCh. Very good show, but then again I've been into Deep Purple since I was 5. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Sat Oct 4, 2008 11:18 am This might be of interest guys. Got a message from a group I am on from Paul Di'anno that says that he will be announcing details of an Australia & New Zealand tour soon. Be good to see Di'anno live out in NZ I reckon. I quite enjoy some of his solo stuff especially from the years he ahd the band "Killers". |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Sun Oct 5, 2008 12:32 am Its not bad mate. Quite different to what Maiden is today. He does play a couple of the old ones like Remember Tomorrow & running Free from what I've seen of live dvds & cds but the stuff hes done with Killers, & Battlezone is quite different. In fact I'm listening to a track right now. Quite good. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Sun Oct 5, 2008 9:53 am D'ianno is THE MAN KILLERS is my FAVOURITE album by any band, any time, ever. Period. Solo stuff quite good too. Also sang with Steel Prophet for a bit, did a brilliant version of The Ides of March & Purgatory, two of my favourite Maiden tracks. Holy crap if he came to ChCh I've still got my original copy of Killers that belonged to my dad - I listened to it as a really small kid. It's all beat up looking... if I could get him to sign it *NOT WORTHY* |
