PAUL DI'ANNO!!!! Posted: Thu Oct 30, 2008 12:57 pm I asked the question of Paul Di'Anno through his my space page regarding when he thought he would be in NZ & if he would play CHCH. His answer was pretty straight forward: "Looks likely to be May next year!" Awesome shit Di'Anno coming to NZ! And if he doesn't do the mainland I'll travell to see him! |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Tue Nov 11, 2008 2:11 pm This is GREAT news! I can't wait the 75 minutes to tell my kids to read page 9 of The Press. They were asking me yesterday if Iron Maiden was ever coming to New Zealand (we're new immigrants), and I kind of lowered their expectations. Fantastic! Hopefully with Lauren Harris opener, or another European (continental) band. This message was edited by St. Julian on Tue Nov 11, 2008 2:21 pm. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Wed Nov 12, 2008 10:51 pm Referring to a possible ROCK2CHCH... A few weeks ago, I sent to Phil a list of suggestions for bands to play on the next installment, hopefully in CHCH. I did not include any overpriced, overrated dinossaurs like Ozzy and Kiss, but affordable and good (in my opinion) modern examples of Death, Black, Trash, Power and Gothic metal (and R&R). The answer from him was a bit disappointing. He referred to "the demographics may not justify". I am not sure if he referred to CHCH or if he thought I wanted the whole shopping list to be at once in a concert (in this case, of coures it does not make $ sense for NZ). Hopefully he referred to the second case. I still hope it is CHCH. And it was very courteous of him to answer back, anyway. This message was edited by St. Julian on Wed Nov 12, 2008 10:52 pm. RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Thu Nov 13, 2008 3:09 pm I dunno, but to me if hes trying to establish the festival on the world calendar then that isn't the road to go down. There are alreayd festivals with those sort fo acts. And they play regularily at the BDO those type of bands & southern AMp etc. The whole point of Rock2wgtn was those old geezers! Thats the demograph hes after I'd guess, the 35 plus age group. There are two stadiums in CHCH both have been pencil booked for labour weekend 2009. Now whether ist Capital C or not I am not sure yet. I've only just got a txt about it in the last couple of weeks. One is outdoor & one is indoor. But thats probably the direct the festival will go in I'd imagine. I knwo if he did get alot of the modern bands I'm guessing you're talking about then 50% of the demograph he got at Wellington last year wouldn't go. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Thu Nov 13, 2008 3:11 pm Yeah dead right man. Most of the crowd that travelled up to Wellington with us in March wouldn't go if there were those sort of bands there. This message was edited by TheWinger on Thu Nov 13, 2008 9:50 pm. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Thu Nov 13, 2008 10:58 pm Quote:Such as...c'mon K.I.N.G., it's attactive bait, but you don't expect me to get hooked into this type of discussion, do you? I worship Iron Maiden probably as much as you do, but there's plenty of fantastic bands out there, with people which are actually younger than us. People who also love Kiss, Ozzy, Dio, Deep Purple, ACDC, Mettallica, Motörhead. And they make new music and they are awesome! And I am talking metal. (actually this seems to be directed at a broader audience now, for I am talking about the 35 + age group) Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the Southern Amp did not have more than 1 metal band - Tainted (unless Testament did come). One band does not justify the price to pay for all of that. I'd have loved to see Testament, but not at S.A. Of course to make a feasible "festival", they should have at least one big band to drag the 35 pluses, but GOOD big bands. Bring ACDC, not Guns and Roses. Bring Mettallica, not Poison. Bring Heaven and Hell, and not Ozzy!!! BRING MOTÖRHEAD! We old geezers should get over some of these old bands. Their live presentations have sunk to depths we never even dreamed of before. Ozzy and Paul Stanley should retire immediately. They are NOT Lemmy. I am not sure why most of these 35 pluses have stopped in time. Most of my friends have stopped in time at Iron Maiden. They think “Pantera” is a new band! They sort of refuse to listen to any of the new stuff. But in reality (“my “ reality) they are missing some of the best metal ever written and played. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Fri Nov 14, 2008 12:56 pm "I am not sure why most of these 35 pluses have stopped in time. " Its pretty simple really becuase the new bands are all crap! What the hell is it with most of them that they feel they need to growl instead of friggin' sing? Don't tell me its detah metal or thrash ebcause it ain't. Bands like Angelwitch, Raven & Slayer who staretd that type of genre never felt the need to do that. As for you're comments of performances I agree with them inr egards to Ozzy & Paul Stanley but as for Mr Vince Furnier ( One Alice Cooper)He blew them off the stage with his performance. Not band for a 60 year old! |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Fri Nov 14, 2008 5:37 pm Totally agreed! That's why I never dared to mention his name as a "must retire". I saw Alice in 2004 in Germany and he was as good as in the 70's. He never dropped the level! He was even better than Lordi in Rock2Wgtn. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Fri Nov 14, 2008 11:07 pm Yeah mate, for me Alice blew the rest of the acts away. Poor Old Kiss ( who look & sound very dated now anyway!) had no where to go after following that performance from Alice. great music & a great show. Lets see any of these so called modern acts do that! This message was edited by TheRoadie on Fri Nov 14, 2008 11:08 pm. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Fri Nov 14, 2008 11:19 pm I can't get over the "talking to the audience" part of these concerts. Paul Stanley with the same jokes and voice excercises. But time is running! I want to hear their music! And Ozzy telling us that we are not loud enough. Isn't that supposed to be HIS fuc4ing job? I have seen few fine examples of concerts without any of this crap: Ramones, Alice Cooper and Motörhead usually just come (came) to the stage and just deliver(ed) their music. Faster and louder than expected. And they say (said) thank you at the end. This is perfection. |

RE: Rumours of Rock2Wgtn 2009? Posted: Sat Nov 15, 2008 12:37 pm yeah alice totally blew me away. far exceeded the expectations i had of him. but on the other hand i totally enjoyed seeing kiss and ozzy, i spose it's cos im just a youngin and was the first (if not last) time that i have seen any of those bands but i can see were you guys are coming from. when i saw motorhead they were total class and i would absolutly love it if they came back. |
